Lankanet established as a dedicated non governmental organization in 1994 (as first email service provider in Sri Lanka using Fido Net Technology and APC partner) providing email facilities for community organisations and individuals like human rights activists, lawyers and journalists in Sri Lanka. Presently it is supporting to community organisations and civil groups to enhance their ICT knowledge and works toward knowledgeable and networked society.
Lankanet’s main objective is providing low cost and effective ways of ICT facilities to community organisations and individuals whose goals are achievement of peace, prevention of warfare, elimination of militarism, conservation of environment, furtherance of human rights and rights of women, achievement of social and economic justice, elimination of poverty, promotion of sustainable and equitable development and advancement of participatory democracy and non violent conflict resolution.
